Aurora Orchestra tackle their most audacious challenge yet: a complete performance of the colourful 1945 suite from Stravinsky’s ballet The Firebird from memory

Nicholas Collon and the Aurora Orchestra’s from-memory performances have become a thrilling fixture of Saffron Hall's summer programme, with ‘by heart’ presentations of symphonies by Berlioz and Beethoven. This year they'll be harnessing the unique potential of an orchestra playing without music stands or sheet music to get inside Stravinsky’s Firebird Suite: exploring the work’s textures and themes and unpacking its intricate musical narrative with the help of BBC Radio 3 presenter Tom Service, before delivering a complete performance of the work.

The concert opens with another Russian classic: Rachmaninov’s virtuosic Rhapsody on a Theme of Paganini, with former BBC Radio 3 New Generation Artist Pavel Kolesnikov as soloist.

Shuttle Bus

Our free minibus service between Audley End Station and Saffron Hall will not be in operation for this event.
